Black Melano Betta Fish

Melano black betta fish here I will not discuss how the genes came to be. Because I have no knowledge about genes and we can read about it on other websites.

Melano black betta fish have completely black fins, no other colors mixed in. There will be an iridescent color (Light blue-gray or green ) coating on scales around the body.

Interestingly, black melano betta female cannot be used for breeding. When bred with black melano betta male , even though they can mate and produce eggs but most of the time the eggs will not hatch .

In Thailand, we will use black melano betta fish male to breed with green, blue or steelblue betta fish female so that the F1 generation betta fish will carry black melano gene .After that the F1 generation betta fish can be bred together in order to get some amount of black melano betta fish back in the F2 generation.

In the past, I have seen black melano betta fish with a thin copper color coating on the body scales from some Thai betta fish breeder .Nowadays, it is no longer found, which is very disappointing. Black Melano betta fish can sometimes be seen among black multicolored betta fish offspring . I guess the black multicolored betta fish parent have the black melano gene on them.
